The existing school hall was isolated and disconnected from the school. The need for drama, dance and music practice spaces presented the opportunity to upgrade and link the school hall to a new Cultural Centre. This centre was created which followed the principles of the Art Deco movement which stayed true to the existing materials and style of the school's architecture. The white plastered walls were roofed with terracotta tiles following the main building. These Marseille roof tiles had been discontinued so reclaimed tiles were sourced specifically for the project. The uniform variations in roof types emphasise the dominant spaces and a subtle connection to music is made along the south west facade through the regular placement of windows.
The internal spaces were carefully planned with the music practice rooms separated by store rooms to create sound barriers.
Bespoke elements were designed for the school such as the Art Deco balustrade with a timber handrail and the school has begun replacing all balustrades throughout the campus with this uniform Epworth identity specific handrail.
